Here's what happens when you ask a five year-old to act like a super model. This is my niece. Code name: Smudge. She's my sister's youngest child and ever since she saw some scrapbook pages I made featuring her, she has enjoyed having her picture made.
In addition to being the cutest thing around, she's very funny and clever. At one point, she climbed up on this big rock to pose and I could tell she was formulating a plan. She rubbed her hands together and said, "OK. Now. I'm the Queen of Alabama. You need to bow down to me." So, I did a little bow and she made a strange face like I had insulted her. "No," she said, "You need to bow like a princess. I'm the QUEEN OF ALABAMA!" I assumed she meant a curtsy and when I demonstrated my best curtsy she was drunk with power. "Yes," she squealed, "I love being the Queen of Alabama."
My cousin got married this past weekend and it was the sweetest ceremony...outside on a perfect almost fall-like evening complete with dancing...
and later - watching FOOTBALL with the only other Tide fan in the entire place.
See...doesn't he look like a Tide fan?
I can't believe my cousin is old enough to marry. But really, is anyone ever old enough to marry? Probably not. I remember changing his diapers and chasing him around the house. He was a beautiful baby - a chunky towhead - and he's turned out to be a very handsome and kind young man. His bride is a lucky girl. And she better be nice to him or she will have to answer to me and my sister. And we don't play.
It was a fun night - and everyone behaved and got along well. The dysfunction level was low, in other words. We've always had a great time with our cousins, and being the oldest grandchild gave me the fabulous opportunity of watching them all grow up (and the not so fabulous job of babysitting them much of the time).
Banana was there giving out kisses and spreading her cheer:
And of course, the Queen of Alabama was in attendance. She particularly enjoyed the chocloate covered strawberries and dancing with her Uncle PJ.
It was a full weekend. I'll share the photos from the next day (Melmo meets Banana Montana) soon.
